Outside Adventures

This past weekend, as Florida experienced some cold weather, I thought it would be a good idea to open the windows and sliding glass doors. Not such a great idea when you have a genius cat. As I was happily watching ESPN I glanced outside and saw Chubbies and Midnight, both inside cats, running around the backyard. I ran outside screaming, “Chubbies! Midnight!”, I thought for sure they were long gone. Luckily, I was able to capture the cats and bring them safely inside. The next puzzle- how did the cats open up the screen door? The blame went directly to ornery Jack. After reprimanding Jack for opening the door and letting the cats escape (probably his exact plan), I thought to myself…this is Jack we are talking about, he’s not talented enough to open the door. Minutes later I see that sneak Chubbies pushing the screen door open with his tiny snout! Chubbies is the culprit!

The Vet

This week I took Jack to the vet. After receiving about 30 threatening appointment cards, and my wifes nagging, I figured I would bring him in before the Vet sent his Shylock to my house. Apparently Jack needs a muzzle, he’s a snappy one according to the ladies there. We know he’s a good dog, but he gets real sketch when mom or dad aren’t in the room. Hey, no one ever said he was perfect when we picked him up from the humane society. 300 dollars later and I can dodge the Vet for one more year.

Today’s Playdate

Today Jack had a play date with his sister Lola. Lola is 6 years old, and she is my wife’s dog, and lives with Nonni. Fortunately my wife’s mom lives directly across the street. Good for Jack, I suppose. A couple times a week, they meet up, and we take them to the dog park to chase tennis balls. Lola needs the exercise, she is the largest golden retriever I have ever seen, all the pasta she eats from Nonni

Midnight!

A little over a year ago I brought midnight home. I found her hanging out near a dumpster, and she was the sweetest cat ever. Although my wife was upset to see another animal, we have grown to love her and she is part of the family. Midnight is a Hemingway, which means she has thumbs. She is actually quite a rare cat. These cats are called Hemingway’s because Ernest Hemingway’s home in key west has been littered with them ever since he was given one by a ship’s captain. Today, there are still 50 plus Hemingway’s that live at the Hemingway house in Key West, and they are all descendants of the original cat that was given to Ernest Hemingway. Being that we live in Florida, there is a good chance that I own a relative of one of these cats. When you glance at midnight, and she is standing in the right position, she looks like she is wearing high heels. I have also taught her to go to the bathroom on the toilet, and flush it when she’s done. Hooray for opposable thumbs! j/k

Me and My frienemy, Chubbies.

When my wife and I found Jack at the Humane Society it didn’t take long for him to become part of our family. He is the most loving and loyal dog I have ever met, and acts as a great protector. We like to call him ” special officer Jack”.  We have adopted all of our pets, we think that is the most humane thing for people who want pets to do. We found him when he was under a year old and he weighed 37 lbs. He was what we thought to be a chocolate lab puppy, but we soon realized he was always going to be a shrimp, and he was already fully grown. He is now 3 years old, and likes to believe he is the king of the house.

The real king

This is the king of the house Chubbies. I adopted Chubbies five years ago. He was chubby then, and now he’s down right fat. He spent the first years of his life living outside, and has a chubby belly because he gorges himself when he eats. He eats like this because he is so excited to have real meow mix, and not have to eat lizards. Chubbies and jack have become great friends over the years, well not really. ” Just don’t get to close Jack, or I will claw out you eyeballs.
